60 Percent of Adult EU Citizens Received At Least One Corona Shot
About 60 percent of adults in the European Union have been vaccinated against the coronavirus at least once. This concerns about 220 million people, says President Ursula von der Leyen of the European Commission.
Von der Leyen briefed EU leaders in Brussels on Thursday about the progress of the vaccination campaign.
She previously set the target that at least 70 percent of adult EU citizens should be vaccinated before autumn. Enough vaccines would be available for this as early as July, and she later tightened up.
The EU has received roughly 424 million doses and administered about 346 million through this week, von der Leyen told Prime Minister Mark Rutte and his colleagues.
Of the vast majority of those doses, two are needed to count as fully vaccinated.
