She tore up her passport and thus prevented her deportation – now Maria Kolesnikova is on trial in Belarus. The authorities accuse her of conspiracy.
Almost a year after her arrest, the trial of opposition activist Maria Kolesnikova has started in Belarus. The 39-year-old was led into a barred glass box in a court in Minsk with the accused attorney Maxim Snak. Just state media were permitted to go to the shut entryway hearing. Indeed, even relatives were denied section.
The Russian news portal Sputnik published a video of Kolesnikova dancing in a black suit and forming her hands into a heart – her trademark. “Masha is as always happy and full of energy,” said the Telegram channel of the opposition activist Viktor Babariko, who was sentenced to prison and whose team Kolesnikova belongs to.
