Twitter Account Ajax Loses 220,000 Followers

Twitter account Ajax loses 220,000 Followers after having been Offline for a short Time. The official Twitter account of Ajax has been offline on Saturday night.


The football club had 220,000 followers and lost its verification, but they seem to be back now.

The account of the Amsterdam football club went offline around 10 p.m. on Saturday night.

A few hours later the account was online again.

It is not entirely clear why the account was taken offline.

Usually, Twitter does this if there is abuse or if the holder of an account infringes the rules.

Fans of the club promptly launched an action under the hashtag #FreeAFC and called Twitters support team to restore the account.

The account lost 220,000 followers after the return. @AFCAjax had more than 940,000 followers, who also seemed temporarily away.

In the meantime, they are back, although this can only be seen via the official Twitter website.

The checkmark has also disappeared with Twitter showing the authenticity of an account.

It is not yet apparent whether this check will come back.
